VIDEO AS A MEDIUM OF EDUCATION



The development of information technology and communications make the video become an important part as a medium of education. Today, many videos are used to support the achievement of educational goals. Video as educational media used for information services, service orientation and mastery of content. Examples of educational videos like the discovery channel, planet earth, ipin and upin and much more. But we already understand that not all video can be used simply in education. From this statement then we will discuse about what kind of videos are appropriate for use as a medium of education.
Not all video can be used as a medium of education. Video as a medium of education needs to have some specific characteristics. videos for education should be able to attract students to learn, has an association with the matter and purpose of the educational curriculum, content and presentation meet the standards, objective and does not contain elements of propaganda, meet technical quality standards, developing the mind, imagination and opinions of students, clarify things abstract and provide a more realistic, and very strongly affect a person's emotions (Smaldino, Lowther, & Russell, 2008: 405). In other words characteristic from video as a medium of education should have the cognitive realm, affective realm, the realm of motor, and the realm of interpersonal skills.  Characteristics of the video as a medium of education should be well understood by any teachers. This is because the use of video as a medium of education should be in accordance with the purpose from education itself that is both in terms of cognitive, affective and psychomotor students
Based on the above explanation, the video becomes an important part as a medium of education. However, not all video can be used as a medium of education. Only the video that has the realm cognitive, affective realm, the realm of psychomotor, and the realm of interpersonal skills that can be a medium of education. Therefore, a teacher needs to pay attention to the video being used as a medium of education.
